Mainline UK  railway stations hit by hackers

Mainline UK  railway stations were hit by hackers on 25 September 2024.

Network Rail said 19 stations had their public wi-fi disrupted in the incident including London Euston, Manchester Piccadilly, Liverpool Lime Street, Birmingham New Street, Edinburgh Waverley and Glasgow Central.

When people attempted to log on they were met with messages listing past terror attacks across Europe.

The motive behind the incident is unclear. People don’t need to give personal details to access rail station public wi-fi.

The British Transport Police launched an investigation.

Network Rail said the service was provided by a third party called Telent. The company confirmed it was aware of the “security incident” and was “investigating with Network Rail and other stakeholders”.
